Have you signed up for GP online services yet?

13 Feb 2017

Signing up to securely access GP services online offers patients a range of benefits, and it’s quick, easy and completely free to do.

Patients can book or cancel GP appointments online via any computer, smartphone or tablet at a time that suits them – anywhere, anytime, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This time saving alternative to calling or visiting the surgery also allows people who require repeat prescriptions to request them from the comfort of their own home, and it gives them the ability to review the medication they are taking, or even to arrange for a carer to order repeat prescriptions on their behalf.

It also conveniently enables patients to view a range of their health records online – in order to check things such as their immunisation status, information about medication, allergies, previous illnesses and test results.

Everyone who is registered with a GP can have access to their practice's online services, and can sign up in four easy steps:

  1. Tell your GP practice that you would like to start using their online services
  2. A member of the practice will ask you to fill in a short form
  3. You will have to provide a photo ID and proof of address. If you do not have any ID then either a member of staff will have to confirm your identity or you may have to answer some security questions about personal information in your GP record.
  4. Once you are signed up, you will receive a letter with a unique username and password, and a link to where you can log in.

You can register for GP online services now by visiting your GP surgery, or find out more by logging on to the NHS Choices website at: www.nhs.uk/GPonlineservices
